PREPARING MATERIALS FOR FINAL MODERATION AND EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT

Preparing Individual Student Portfolios
Schools submit school assessment and external assessment materials together as a portfolio for each student in the assessment group. The SACE Board provides schools with a portfolio envelope for each student.
The portfolio consists of Assessment Type 1: Folio and Assessment Type 2: Research Outcome, submitted for final moderation, and Assessment Type 3: Evaluation, submitted for external assessment. Each assessment type should be clearly identified within the portfolio, according to the guidelines below.
The portfolio submitted to the SACE Board for each student for final moderation and external assessment should consist of the following materials:

A maximum of ten A4 pages (written) or a maximum of 10 minutes, or the equivalent in multimodal form. The teacher and student select evidence of the research development. The evidence selected may include material from the proposal.

Digitally recorded evidence or written notes, or a combination of these, to a maximum of 10 minutes of continuous recording or two A4 pages in printed copy, or equivalent. Notes may be made before, during, and/or after one or two formal discussions.
Research Outcome (30%)
A maximum of 1500 words if written or a maximum of 10 minutes if oral, or the equivalent in multimodal form (see page 8 for details).
Evaluation (30%)
Research Project A
Both of the following must be submitted for Research Project A:
· a 150- to 200-word written summary
· an assessment of a maximum of 1500 words if written or a maximum of 10 minutes if oral, or the equivalent in multimodal form.
Research Project B
Both of the following must be submitted for Research Project B:
· a 150- to 200-word written summary
· a written assessment of a maximum of 1500 words.

Submission of Electronic Files
Formats for Submission of Electronic Files
Image format: An image file in PDF, JPEG, TIFF, or GIF format
Video format: A digital video file in MOV, AVI, WMV, or MP4 format
Audio format: A digital audio file in MP3 or WAV format


Identifying the CD-R or DVD-/+R
The CD-R or DVD-/+R should be identified with the:
· school number
· subject: ‘Research Project A’ or ‘Research Project B’
· assessment details
· SACE registration number and any other numerals used to identify the student in the recording.
This information must be clearly indicated on the CD-R or DVD-/+R with a title in the menu or a title slide at the beginning of the CD-R or DVD-/+R.
Only SACE registration numbers or other numerals should be used to identify students.

Schools register online for the clarifying forums that start in the week beginning 7 March (registration ends 23 February).

Clarifying forums begin.

Database cut-off date for schools to submit final enrolments.

The SACE Board sends enrolment confirmation sheets to schools.
13 May
Due date for schools to submit enrolment confirmation sheets to the SACE Board.
Week beginning 13 June
The SACE Board sends:
· school assessment results sheets (yellow) for the school assessment component
· external assessment results sheets (white) for the assessment group and individual external assessment results sheets (buff)
· stationery for submission of materials for final moderation and external assessment (a portfolio envelope for each student and a larger envelope for each assessment group).
1 July
The SACE Board collects from school by courier:
· a portfolio from each student in the portfolio envelope provided
· school assessment results sheets (yellow)
· external assessment results sheets (white) for the assessment group, and individual external assessment results sheets (buff).
The portfolios and results sheets for each assessment group must be placed in the larger envelope provided.

Due date for schools to submit the verified title of each student’s Research Project using DATEX Online.

Schools begin to upload digital copies of Assessment Type 3: Evaluation for students enrolled in Research Project B
(results due June) for verification purposes.
7 July
Due date for schools to upload digital copies of Assessment Type 3: Evaluation for students enrolled in Research Project B for verification purposes.
